Navigating research currents – emerging Pasifika researcher?

This article reflects on the experiences of an emerging Pasifika researcher within a tertiary education environment in Aotearoa New Zealand. It discusses the impact of research frameworks shaped by Western rules and regulations, and the challenges these pose for Pasifika communities. Vaiolesi Passells argues for research that is purposeful, credible, and grounded in Pasifika thought, so that it can influence policy while maintaining integrity with Pasifika communities. Pasifika research is presented as both political and specific, requiring researchers to navigate insider/outsider positions and uphold reciprocal, culturally grounded methodologies.
