Anthropological Knowledge Production in Oceania. And How to Decolonise Anthropology in (Swiss) Academia
The article by Juliane Neuhaus, published in the Swiss Journal of Socio-Cultural Anthropology (Vol. 28, Special Issue, 2022), examines power relations in the production of anthropological knowledge in Oceania and their implications for decolonising Swiss academia. Neuhaus highlights how Indigenous anthropologists in Oceania have long developed proposals to challenge colonial structures in research and teaching, though their contributions are often overlooked in global debates. Neuhaus draws on online research and teaching experiences to introduce European audiences to these voices, their reflections, and Indigenous methodologies. It concludes with suggestions for advancing decolonisation processes within anthropology in Switzerland Academia.
