Indigenous and Local Knowledge and Science: From Validation to Knowledge Coproduction
This article explores the persistent tensions around validating Indigenous and local knowledge in relation to science. It highlights how debates continue in global contexts such as the IPBES and IPCC, where science often functions as the dominant standard of legitimacy. The author questions whether scientific validation is inherently top down and rooted in unequal power relations. As a response, the article proposes knowledge coproduction as a pathway toward more equitable and reciprocal engagement between different knowledge systems.
