At home and in the field. Ethnographic Encounters in Asia and the Pacific Islands
At Home and in the Field is an anthology of contemporary ethnographic research that explores the intersections of home, identity, and disjuncture across Asia and the Pacific Islands. The collection is distinctive in its focus on “homework,” or ethnography that engages with issues in which researchers themselves find political or personal belonging. Contributors reflect on the obligations created through fieldwork and highlight socially engaged research practices. Covering topics from ritual money burning in China to militarization in Hawai’i, marriage practices in Vanuatu, and the cultural presence of robots in Japan, the volume provides fresh perspectives on the complexities of insider–outsider relationships in anthropology.
