SWAP Project

SWAP Project

The SWAP Project (2020–2024) focuses on sustainable and cost-effective waste and pollution management across the Pacific region. It targets key waste streams including used oil, disaster waste, marine debris, and sustainable financing through both training and pilot interventions. The first component delivers a regional training program combining theoretical and practical courses, supported by regional experts and real-world case studies. The second component implements in-country pilot projects such as advanced recovery systems, oil collection infrastructure, coastal clean-up campaigns, and disaster waste facility upgrades. A Community of Practice will be established to foster regional knowledge exchange, alongside a digital knowledge-sharing platform and practitioner workshops. SWAP also builds on and complements existing initiatives like PacWaste Plus, J-PRISM II, POLP, and the GEF ISLANDS project. Additionally, it aligns with efforts under the Moana Taka Partnership and PRIF’s Regional Recycling Network to maximize impact and avoid duplication.
