Militarism and nuclear testing in the Pacific

Militarism and nuclear testing in the Pacific

This short book, Volume 1 of the Teaching Oceania Series, provides an accessible overview of militarism and nuclear testing in the Pacific Islands. It encourages critical thinking and empathy for Pacific Islanders, whose lives have been profoundly shaped by the history and continuing effects of militarization. Drawing from Pacific studies, history, anthropology, and political science, and incorporating cultural knowledge from the Marshall Islands, French Polynesia, Hawai‘i, and Palau, the book offers a comparative, theoretical, transdisciplinary, and collaborative perspective.

The Teaching Oceania Series is a cooperative educational initiative and includes the following volumes:

  • Militarism and Nuclear Testing in the Pacific
  • Gender in the Pacific
  • Health and Environment in the Pacific
  • Oceanic Arts: Continuity and Innovation
  • Islands of French-Speaking Oceania
