Ailan Awareness

Ailan Awareness

Ailan Awareness is a local NGO dedicated to sustainable marine conservation in Papua New Guinea. Its director, John Aini, founded the organization in 1993 to empower coastal communities to manage their own marine resources. By working directly with grassroots populations, Ailan Awareness addresses a critical gap left by government regulation and international NGOs: it provides the people most directly affected by marine conservation with the tools and agency to design and implement their own initiatives. Paige West has been closely involved in supporting the work of Ailan Awareness.
