A Maani: Birds and Nalik Culture

A Maani: Birds and Nalik Culture

In 2016, Cláudio da Silva facilitated a two-month workshop with grade six and seven students at Madina Primary School in New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea. The workshop aimed to foster student writing and creative expression through reflections on their Nalik culture. Students produced both individual and group texts, focusing on the theme of birds, with elders contributing explanations and cultural insights. These writings, combined with student artwork and photographs by Cláudio da Silva, became the foundation of the book: A Maani: Birds and Nalik Culture, created collaboratively by the school community.
