Te Aliki Fox Boda

Te Aliki Fox Boda

“Fox, son of Chief Kaveia, is a skilled captain, navigator, and steersman, carrying forward his ancestors’ great voyaging tradition. He has mastered traditional canoe construction techniques, especially carving the inner ends of large hulls. In 2000, Fox and his sons successfully sailed the Te Puke canoe Vaka Taumako from Pileni back to Taumako, defying rumors that the vessel was ruined. As they passed the origin of those rumors, Fox famously shouted, “Here is your rotten vaka!” He now builds detailed Te Puke models for his grandchildren and for sale. Currently, Fox supervises the construction of a Te Alo Holau canoe for the Taumako Voyaging and Culture School (HVTA) and plans to lead the building of a full-scale Te Puke and six Te Alo Folau canoes for future generations.”
