John Bradley
John Bradley is Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the Monash Indigenous Studies Centre at Monash University. His research focuses on Indigenous knowledges, languages, and relationships with land and sea, developed through more than four decades of collaboration with Aboriginal families and communities in northern Australia. He is the founder of the Monash Country Lines Archive, which uses digital animation to record and share stories in Indigenous languages. Bradley’s teaching and research emphasize the importance of placing Indigenous perspectives at the core of education and contemporary Australian society. He helped initiate the Yanyuwa Animation Project—introducing animation to the community, storyboarding ancestral narratives, and, with Brent McKee and Yanyuwa Elders, guiding permissions, scripts, and voice casting to ensure each film stayed “inside the Law.” He continues to mentor younger narrators and oversee recording and review sessions in Borroloola, sustaining the collaboration over 17 years.
