University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa: The School of Pacific and Asian Studies (SPAS)

The School of Pacific & Asian Studies (SPAS), established in 1986, is a central part of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s mission to promote education and research related to the Pacific and Asia. As part of the College of Arts, Languages & Letters (CALL), SPAS supports faculty and student development, instruction, and scholarly work, while also serving the educational and cultural interests of Hawai‘i’s communities. It coordinates university-wide resources in Pacific and Asian Studies and is composed of eight area centers. These centers foster academic collaboration across the university and engage the public through community outreach programs such as lectures, film screenings, and educational partnerships.
