University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa: American studies

American Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi is an interdisciplinary field that examines the histories, cultures, and peoples of the United States and its territories in a transnational context. With a distinctive location in the Pacific, the program emphasizes Indigenous Studies and U.S. relations with Asia and the Pacific, while also addressing issues of race, ethnicity, gender, class, sexuality, and immigration. Faculty and students engage scholarship that connects classroom learning with public life, from addressing social injustices to creating art and preserving history.
