Injalak Arts Centre
Injalak Arts is an Aboriginal owned organisation dedicated to creating positive social, economic and cultural outcomes for its community. Established in 1989, it has served as a hub for art, craft and community in Gunbalanya, a West Arnhem Land Aboriginal community of around 1,200 people in the Northern Territory, Australia. The name Injalak, from the Kunwinjku language, means “shelter,” reflecting its role as a safe space for culture, creativity and knowledge to flourish. With over 200 active members, including artists, weavers and craftspeople from Gunbalanya and nearby homelands, Injalak Arts produces work year-round that is deeply rooted in connections to culture, country and people.
