“Carey Newman (Hayalthkin’geme) is Kwakwaka’wakw from the Kukwekum, Giiksam, and WaWalaby’ie clans, and Coast Salish from Cheam of the Stó:lō Nation. A multidisciplinary artist, master carver, filmmaker, and author, he explores the impacts of colonialism and capitalism, using material truth to evoke memory and inspire transformative change. He holds the Impact Chair in Indigenous Art Practices at the University of Victoria.”
