In 1993, he reached out to Dr. Mimi George to help realize his vision of training a new generation to build and sail voyaging canoes using ancestral designs and techniques. Kaveia passed away in 2009, at an estimated age of 98, leaving behind a powerful legacy of cultural revival and oceanic knowledge.”
