Emma Gilberthorpe

Emma Gilberthorpe is a Professor of Anthropology at the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom. She holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Queensland and a Master’s degree in the Anthropology of Art from University College London (UCL). Her research focuses on development, cultural transformation, engaged anthropology, indigenous/non-indigenous relations, kinship, and the social impacts of extractive industries, particularly mining and oil. She is also a leading researcher in the INDIS (Inclusive Development and the Extractive Industries) project, which explores the social and environmental dimensions of resource extraction.
