Decolonizing Methodologies in Qualitative Research: Creating Space for Transformative Praxis

Decolonizing Methodologies in Qualitative Research: Creating Space for Transformative Praxis

This article proposes practical ways to decolonize qualitative research, centering four practices: critical reflexivity, reciprocity and respect for self-determination, embracing Other(ed) ways of knowing, and embodying a transformative praxis. It argues that decolonizing approaches are a moral imperative when working with communities oppressed by colonial legacies, challenging Western paradigms and power asymmetries. The authors call for co-created research grounded in solidarity, shared ownership, and accountable relationships throughout the research process.
