Beliebte Materialien hierf\u00fcr sind Wolle, Baumwolle, Leinen oder Seide. G\u00e4ngige Techniken sind das Weben, Sticken oder Wirken. Kunstvoll gestaltete Seidengewebe oder Seidenstickereien z\u00e4hlten im mittelalterlichen Europa \u2013 \u00e4hnlich wie in anderen Kulturen der Zeit &#8211; zu den teuersten und am meisten gesch\u00e4tzten Kunstgegenst\u00e4nden. Bis ins 12.\/13. Jahrhundert mussten Seidengewebe aus islamischen Kulturen oder aus Byzanz importiert werden. Werke der mittelalterlichen Textilkunst weisen daher oft eine Dimension des Kulturtransfers auf. In der franz\u00f6sischen und burgundischen Hofkultur des 14. und 15.
