Die Haupttechnik der Gold- und Silberverarbeitung ist das <a href=\"https:\/\/dlf.uzh.ch\/sites\/khistglossar\/2021\/01\/27\/treibarbeit\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"434\">Treiben<\/a> oder H\u00e4mmern. Die einzelnen Teile werden durch Schweissen oder L\u00f6ten aneinandergef\u00fcgt, die Oberfl\u00e4che wird ziseliert, graviert oder auch ge\u00e4tzt. H\u00e4ufig werden die Metalloberfl\u00e4chen mit Edelsteinen, Perlen oder mit Emails geschm\u00fcckt. Bis ins Sp\u00e4tmittelalter waren Goldschmiedearbeiten die am meisten gesch\u00e4tzten und bewunderten Kunstwerke. Neben der Kostbarkeit der verwendeten Materialien waren daf\u00fcr auch \u00e4sthetische Faktoren ausschlaggebend: der von Gold und Silber ausgehende Glanz, die F\u00fclle und Feinheit ornamentaler Details und das Geschick der ausf\u00fchrenden K\u00fcnstler*innen. Altarger\u00e4te, liturgische B\u00fccher und Reliquienschreine, aber auch weltliche Schatzobjekte wurden vorzugsweise in dieser Technik ausgef\u00fchrt.
