Chiara Cortesi from Ticino began her political career in the 1980s. Despite the difficulties she faced during her studies, including gender discrimination, she persevered and fought for what she believed in. She took on political roles in the municipality of Comano, campaigning for women’s rights and support for the elderly and mothers.

Chiara Cortesi was elected to the Grand Council in 1983 and later became its President. In 1999 she was elected to the National Council. She campaigned for gender equality and better communication between politicians and the people. She founded the Association des Femmes Démocratiques Populaires to give women a voice. Inspired by political role models such as Tina Anselmi, she pursued a clear family policy and fought for the rights of women and families.

She emphasised the importance of teamwork and the need to fight for gender equality. She fought for equal rights at both federal and professional levels, particularly in the field of vocational training. Her political work was characterised by commitment and perseverance, especially in the field of gender equality and the promotion of family policies.
